Student Voice Team to Hold Public Press Conference on Coping with COVID Survey Results
On Wednesday, Aug. 12, the Prichard Committee Student Voice Team will release a summary report and host a public press conference at 3 p.m. EST about their findings from their statewide Coping with COVID Student Survey. High school members from throughout the state will share key themes and data highlights they gleaned from the thousands of middle and high school students from 119 of 120 counties who completed the survey they designed and disseminated last May. The news conference will be livestreamed on the Prichard Committee’s Facebook or YouTube pages for public viewing.
Spandana Pavluri is a sophomore at DuPont Manual High School in Louisville and one of the Student Voice Team’s researchers.
“A few months ago, nearly 13,000 students from diverse backgrounds participated in the survey and shared what they were experiencing learning from home last Spring. Of those 13,000+ surveys, more than 9,000 students completed the process and their responses indicated a great desire to be heard. Our public press conference is a way to recognize the great responsibility and urgency we feel to amplify and elevate their feedback to help guide decision making as the new school year approaches,” said Pavluri.
Fellow Student Voice Team researcher and Frankfort High School sophomore, Audrey Gilbert, encouraged journalists and the public to attend and help share the results that have emerged from this research.
“As primary stakeholders, students offer important insights on a range of issues effecting their education in this moment of unprecedented education uncertainty. It is essential that anyone who wants to be sure our schools are equitable and effective pay attention to what they are telling us,” she said.
In addition to the news conference, members of the Student Voice Team will be available for individual interviews with journalists who request them. Journalists who register for the Zoom meeting in advance will also be emailed an embargoed version of the report summary. Questions and interview requests also may be submitted in advance to email@example.com.
