"We were privileged to have leadership of an amazing man who was a charismatic leader and a man who was at times irreverent, who was always articulate ... who inspired us and was just simply fun to be with. He could say outrageous things about very important people and get away with it all the time ... I remember when John Y., the governor, came to Shakertown for one of our meetings. We always invited the governor and the governor always showed up. But Prich never made a secret of the fact that he thought John Y. Brown didn't pay enough attention to things that were really important ... On this particular occasion the governor flew in his helicopter and landed on the grounds where we were meeting. He came in with his entourage and made his remarks and told us we were doing good work. And we told him that we wanted some more stuff out of him, and he said he'd look at it. He was about to make his exit, and about that time the heavens opened up, the rain and the lightning and the thunder came down. I mean it was one of the worst storms that I have ever experienced. John Y. and his entourage went upstairs there and a few minutes later one of the people came down and said the governor was going to come back down and stay for a while since he couldn't leave. Prich leaned over to me and said, 'It's an act of God!' We could all tell stories about a remarkable man and a wonderful leader. But I am here to tell you that this committee has lived well beyond a remarkable man and wonderful leader." Dorothy Ridings, Prichard Committee honorary chair
